Changjiang Xing Jiguang, which carries the English name Vista Aurora on its hull, is the second interprovincial holiday cruise ship of Hubei Three Gorges Culture and Tourism Group. After a successful trial voyage it was prepared for service on the Yangtze River. JOSUN supplied the ship’s HVAC&R system, with a scope covering design, manufacture and commissioning.

Requirements
On a cruise ship of this size the air conditioning has to hold steady cabin temperatures and air quality with low noise, keep energy use down, and fit into limited machinery space. The ventilation also forms part of the ship’s fire-safety arrangements.
What JOSUN supplied
Air conditioning
- Variable-frequency twin-screw water chillers. They follow the ship’s cooling load and run steadily with low noise.
- Dual-cold-source cabinet air conditioners.
- Fresh air units.
The dual-cold-source units and the fresh air units can run on their own or together. This lets the ship use energy in stages and keeps a backup source of cooling if one fails.
Ventilation
- Explosion-proof fans in high-risk spaces, to reduce the risk of ignition from electrical equipment.
- Adjustable-blade axial fans and centrifugal fans that keep air moving through the accommodation.
- Fire dampers linked to sensors. When a fire is detected they close the ducts within seconds to stop smoke and fire spreading.
Monitoring
A two-level monitoring arrangement:
- A centralized monitoring system on board. It is built on a real-time database, a communication server and an operator interface.
- A remote monitoring platform for online viewing, data analysis and remote maintenance.
Together they show the running state of the air conditioning, refrigeration and ventilation equipment in real time, allow the equipment to be adjusted, and give fault warnings. The crew can manage the plant from one point, and maintenance can be planned remotely.
Delivery
